Hugs & Stitches

What is Hugs & Stitches?

Hugs & Stitches is all about kids… homeless kids and hurting kids…and there are too many in central Brevard – over 2,000 homeless school-aged students! Our mission is to give elementary children comfort, warmth, and hope through the gift of a quilt.

How does Hugs & Stitches work?

This ongoing project produces 100-250 quilts each year. To accomplish this, we cut kits of bright, kid-friendly 100% cotton fabrics which are sewn in meetings & community quilt-ins.  Materials are available at all monthly meeting to sew & cut quilt tops.  Community Quilt-ins are held during summer months and concentration is on assembling, quilting and finishing the quilts.   Everyone who would like to help is welcome – jobs include ironing, stitching, sandwiching quilts, turning quilts and then quilting them.

Hugs & Stitches Funding

Donations are needed to continue this mission. Grateful appreciation goes to the following 2020-2022 donors, who ensure that our mission continues.

The Margaret Binz Foundation

When are the community Quilt-ins?

On the 3rd Saturday of July  and August, from 9:00 – 3:00, enthusiasm will soar at the Scotty Culp Auditorium on Cassia Blvd. in Satellite Beach. We bring lunch and sewing machines and spend the day among positive, energetic individuals who show how much they care, one stitch at a time.

How are the quilts and supplies paid for?

Hugs & Stitches is funded through grants and tax-deductible donations. Great assistance comes from local foundations. Thanks goes to Jack Platt and the Margaret Binz Foundation for awarding yearly grants to Coastal Quilters since 2017.

Some individuals donate through their employers’ charitable giving programs. Coastal Quilters Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 organization, so corporations can put such donations into effect.
